#mm2010: How To Start Micromarketing in 2010

#mm2010, short for Micromarketing 2010, is a bi-weekly Twitter chat. We get the ball rolling with themes, questions, ideas; you get to jump in anytime. It’s a 140-character powow with a singular goal: how to start micromarketing in 2010. And never stop.

We are Greg Verdino, Amy Desmarais, and Andre Yap. Greg is VP Strategy + Solutions at Powered/Crayon, the world’s first full-service social media agency, and author of the world’s first book on Micromarketing due from McGraw-Hill in Summer 2010. Amy and Andre are founders of Ripple100, the world’s first app built for micromarketing.

Every other week we dive into 60 minutes of micromarketing how-to’s. Not concepts, not thought leadership, not guru talk. Just how-to – stuff you can do now. Every week we’ll pick a focal point: micromarketing for restaurants, micromarketing for political campaigns, micromarketing for holidays like Valentine’s, micromarketing for women audiences, and so on.

#mm2010 kicks off Wednesday, 03 Mar 2010 at 1:00 pm EST. Kick-off theme: Micromarketing for Marketers. How-to for marketing consultants, ad agencies, boutiques, PR firms, and (everyone’s favorite) social media experts – how-to for your own practice and for your client campaigns. Discussion points:

  • Share an example of either a micromarketing or un-micromarketing campaign.
  • As a marketer, what’s one way you’re going to do micromarketing for your practice or client – in the next 4 weeks.
  • What are the defining characteristics of micromarketing (that make it different vs. other forms of marketing)?

Rules of engagement – pretty standard for twitter chat:

  1. Join, follow, and post via twitter hashtag #mm2010. [Learn more about hashtags]
  2. Keep tweets on-point – we’ll post theme and discussion points ahead of each chat.
  3. Follow pre- and post-session activities via Ripplecast 2010’s #mm2010 Series.

Greg just blogged about upcoming #mm2010 http://gregverdino.typepad.com/greg_verdinos_blog/2010/02/tweet-chats.html

Excerpt: “No it’s not the next big thing. As someone wicked smart (me) has written, it’s lots and lots of small things. And what better way to get marketers to start thinking about what micro really means and how to advise our clients on new micromarketing techniques than by challenging ourselves to apply micro approaches to our own businesses first.”
